H.E. the Minister of Energy & Infrastructure Inaugurates the New Desalination Plant in UAQ

H.E. Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, inaugurated the new desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain, the largest project of its kind in the UAE and the region. This Inauguration comes after the completion of the first phase of the project, where 50 million gallons will be produced per day, while the total production capacity of it will reach 150 million gallons per day after the completion of all phases during the second half of 2022. H.E. the Minister expressed his happiness with the completion of the first phase of the project, as it is one of the most important projects that will achieve the objectives of the National Water Security Strategy 2036. On the sidelines of the inauguration of the plant, His Excellency the Minister stressed that the plant is designed according to the highest international standards and relies on the latest operating technologies such as electric motors with Variable Frequency Drive technology to reduce energy consumption used in production. Saleh stressed that, in conjunction with the establishment of the plant, Etihad Water and Electricity is implementing a number of networking and water storage projects aimed at securing water supplies and ensuring their sustainability in the country in general and the northern regions in particular. It is noteworthy that the new desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain is being built on an area of 250,000 square meters at a cost of about 2.2 billion dirhams.
